Toronto Dawah’s Past Efforts in Waging War Against Radicalism and Oppressive Terrorism

Toronto Dawah’s Past Efforts in Waging War Against Radicalism and Oppressive Terrorism

Being the reason we live in times of much confusion and suspicion, it is strongly incumbent upon us once again that we emphasize and stress the importance of distinguishing oneself from any group or ideology that is extreme or radical. The website TorontoDawah and its associates have taken a number of steps and methods to propagate the correct concept of Islam via means of publishing, authoring, vocal lectures and through public addresses. Unfortunately, we still may find some of the general population ruling a whole tree to be rotten due to one single apple, which is absolutely unfair and unjust since terrorism has no religion in reality. If that was the case, one could possibly use the same argument to blame the religion of Christianity for the crimes that the KKK have perpetrated throughout history. Thus, TorontoDawah has continued to print and distribute a number of pamphlets and leaflets in waging war against oppressive terrorism and unjustified violence [an example can be found on this link: http://torontodawah.com/?p=557].

Likewise, in our Friday sermons at Bukhaari Islamic Center, efforts have been made in condemning terrorist activities [for example: http://torontodawah.com/?p=6314].

Also, similar efforts have been made vocally at our conferences and seminars: http://toogl.es/#/view/W47U_dqMzQo

Bear in mind that most of our lecturers and speakers are qualified teachers from a number of Islamic schools here in Toronto, Ontario, who have much experience in educating the youth to be wary of the corrupted ideologies of ISIS and its likes.

Consequently, it is unreasonable and unjust that the salafis be held responsible for actions of others who choose to deviate from such teachings.

And our stance towards members affiliated with ISIS and its likes is that we warn against them and we announce that their harm should be reprimanded accordingly. Our dawah seeks to preserve life and security while the people of extremism choose to seek the opposite.

Along with the above, I wanted to conclude that our method of propagation is totally transparent and honest as we have nothing to hide walhamdulilah.

The ruling on telling a new Muslim that music is disliked and not haram | Sh. Abdulmuhsin al abbad

Question: If a new Muslim asks about the ruling on music, for example, should we say to him: it is disliked by way of gradually [teaching him the religion and its rulings]?
Answer: “Do not say it it is disliked. Rather, say: it is from the affairs which Islam prohibits. If he fears the new Muslim will turn away [from the religion], then it is possible that it is said to him [instead]: “leave it” or “avoid it” or “turn towards something which will benefit you”, without saying what is in opposition to the reality”.

How Should One Interact With a Friend Who Calls Him to Evil? – Shaikh Ibn ul-‘Uthaymeen

How Should One Interact With a Friend Who Calls Him to Evil? – Shaikh Ibn ul-‘Uthaymeen
Question: The listener [to the Noor ‘ala Darb radio program] says: I have a friend who pushes me to evil. He is my friend for seven years. So what should I do with him?
Answer: “It is obligatory upon you to advise this friend who calls you to evil. If he is guided, then it is for himself and if he is not guided, then it is upon you to separate from him. This is because the Prophet (ﷺ) warned from accompanying the evil people. He (ﷺ) said:
The example of a good companion is like that of the musk seller. Either he will give you some musk as a gift or sell it to you or you will find a good smell from him. The example of the bad friend is like the one who blows the bellows. Either he will burn your clothes or you will find a bad smell from him
[Bukhari and Muslim]
This includes a warning from evil companions. It was also reported from the Prophet (ﷺ) that he said:
المرء على دين خليله فلينظر أحدكم من يخالل
A man follows the religion of his friend; so each one should consider whom he makes his friend [Saheeh Sunan Abi Dawood (no. 4833)]
Many people are upon firmness and adhering to the religion. Then when a devil from the devils of mankind is appointed for him, from those who misguide from the straight path, perhaps he will be affected by it. And the infallible one is the one whom Allah protects/preserves [from error]”.

A benefit regarding the great harm and fitnah in young men and women having private conversations

Shaykh Ibn Uthaimeen (rahimahullaah) was asked:

What is the ruling on muraasalah (correspondence) between young men and women,
knowing that this correspondence is free from immorality, ‘ishq
(passionate love), and I always begin the letters with وَجَعَلْنَاكُمْ
شُعُوبًا وَقَبَائِلَ لِتَعَارَفُوا (…and made you into nations and
tribes, that you may know one another.)[Al-Hujuraat 49:13]?

He, rahimahullah, replied:

“It is not permissible for anyone to have correspondence with a non-mahram woman, due to the fitnah (that is) involved. The one having the conversation may think there is no fitnah (in that), but however the Shaytaan remains with him until he seduces him with her and her with him.

The Prophet (salla Allaah ‘alaihi wasallam) ordered the one who hears of the Dajjaal to flee far away from him, and he said that a man may come to him as a believer but the Dajjaal will keep on at him until he
makes him fall into his fitnah.

Correspondence of young men with young women involves a great deal of
fitnah and danger, and it must be avoided, even if the questioner says that there is no love or desire involved.

As for men corresponding with men and women with women, then there is
nothing wrong in it except if it contains evil.”

Taken From The Book:

Fataawa al Mar’ah al Muslimah (2/578).

Shaykh Saalih al Fawzaan, may Allah preserve him, was asked:

What is the ruling on having conversations with young women by email and what is the ruling of it, if it is beneficial for example speaking to an woman poet (to benefit from her poetry)?

A:
The origin is that is not permissible if it is occurring from non mahram men for them (the women) due to what it contains of fitnah and harm, even if she is a poet because preventing harm has precedence over bring out good. Majority of the times the ending of (these cases) are awful due to the youth having conversations with young women (by email) …”

The Ruling on Attending Training Sessions Which Have Free-Mixing Between Men and Women – Shaikh Ibn ul-‘Uthaymeen

The Ruling on Attending Training Sessions Which Have Free-Mixing Between Men and Women – Shaikh Ibn ul-‘Uthaymeen
Question: What is the ruling on attending training sessions which have free-mixing between men and women?
Answer: “If a necessity calls for that, then there is no harm, along with avoiding communicating with women and looking at them with desire”*.
[‘Ilaam ul-Musaafireen pg. 86]
* Translator’s Note:
With that being said, the Shaikh’s final view on the issue of attending free-mixing schools or areas is that it is prohibited. The following is the last fatwa the Shaikh gave on the issue, which was a few months before he passed away rahimahullah.
He was asked:
Question: What is the ruling on studying medicine in a free-mixing university. Is this considered a Legislated need?
Answer: “This is not a Legislated need. It is obligatory upon those responsible of the Islamic country to separate between the men and women because free-mixing is an issue. If the people stopped entering into studies, enrolling in universities, and what resembles that of free-mixing, it would force the ruler to distinguish and separate. I see that it is not allowed to have free-mixing in medicine and nor other than it.
Questioner: Even in the Legislated Sciences?
Answer: “Even in the Legislated Sciences except if the women gather in a [separate] place, which they enter from a [separate] door and exit from a [separate] door and there is no free-mixing with men”.
