Islam and terrorism:
How Do We Deal with Those Who Try to Validate Terrorist Acts?
Prominent scholar and Shaykh Saleh al Fawzaan (May Allah preserve him) was asked:
How Do We Deal with Those Who Try to Validate Terrorist Acts?
Question: You find among some of the youth people who do not consider what has occurred of bombings and similar actions (to be evil). They approve of, or try to validate some actions of this group.
Answer: Such a person is either one of two things: He is either 1) ignorant, giving them (the terrorists) the benefit of the doubt. And to him, you clarify their faults to him, and explain them until his misconception about them is gone. Or 2) he is behind them, supporting their ideas. He has the same belief as they do and shares their ideas. To him too, you clarify the truth, so perhaps he may return back. If he does not return back (to truth), then his sin is upon himself. Unless of course it appears he himself may disrupt peace and safety or attempt to deceive other Muslims; in that case it is an obligation to inform (the authorities) about him. If there appears anything from him that may infringe upon peace and security or he may deceive more Muslims or if he calls the youth to this (misguidance), he must be turned in and informed of so they stop him.
Furthermore, a hadith or saying of the final Messenger sent, Prophet Muhammad (May peace and blessings be upon him) said:
َنْ قَتَلَ مُعَاهَدًا لَمْ يَرِحْ رَائِحَةَ الْجَنَّةِ وَإِنَّ رِيْحَهَا تُوجَدُ مِنْ مَسِريَةِ أَرْبَعِنيَ عامًا
“Whoever kills someone (a non-Muslim) given a trust or covenant will not even smell the fragrance of Paradise even though its fragrance can be smelled from the distance of forty years away.”
Recorded by al-Bukhārī (no. 3166) from the Ḥadīth of ‘Abd Allah Ibn ‘Amr (May Allah be pleased with him).

Toronto Dawah’s Past Efforts in Waging War Against Radicalism and Oppressive Terrorism
Being the reason we live in times of much confusion and suspicion, it is strongly incumbent upon us once again that we emphasize and stress the importance of distinguishing oneself from any group or ideology that is extreme or radical. The website TorontoDawah and its associates have taken a number of steps and methods to propagate the correct concept of Islam via means of publishing, authoring, vocal lectures and through public addresses. Unfortunately, we still may find some of the general population ruling a whole tree to be rotten due to one single apple, which is absolutely unfair and unjust since terrorism has no religion in reality. If that was the case, one could possibly use the same argument to blame the religion of Christianity for the crimes that the KKK have perpetrated throughout history. Thus, TorontoDawah has continued to print and distribute a number of pamphlets and leaflets in waging war against oppressive terrorism and unjustified violence [an example can be found on this link: http://torontodawah.com/?p=557].
Likewise, in our Friday sermons at Bukhaari Islamic Center, efforts have been made in condemning terrorist activities [for example: http://torontodawah.com/?p=6314].
Also, similar efforts have been made vocally at our conferences and seminars: http://toogl.es/#/view/W47U_dqMzQo
Bear in mind that most of our lecturers and speakers are qualified teachers from a number of Islamic schools here in Toronto, Ontario, who have much experience in educating the youth to be wary of the corrupted ideologies of ISIS and its likes.
Consequently, it is unreasonable and unjust that the salafis be held responsible for actions of others who choose to deviate from such teachings.
And our stance towards members affiliated with ISIS and its likes is that we warn against them and we announce that their harm should be reprimanded accordingly. Our dawah seeks to preserve life and security while the people of extremism choose to seek the opposite.
Along with the above, I wanted to conclude that our method of propagation is totally transparent and honest as we have nothing to hide walhamdulilah.
