Our flawed unstanding of success

Success

Only a few years ago, I had a flawed perception as to what the purpose of life was. It was merely something which came about with a unconscious connection to “success”. Now, success back then, to me; success was simply a word which I tied with being wealthy. I thought that success was to wake up to a beautiful view, in a beautiful home, with a beautiful career, with a beautiful bank account. How wrong was I? I was a teenager raised in a society where the concept of “success” was fed to us. We were taught, it was to go to school, get a education, get a good career, and then you work until you die.

After converting to Islam, a lot of my questions were answered, with one of the most important questions being: “What is my purpose?”. A pair of some well known verse in the Qur’an reads: “Blessed is He in Whose Hand is the dominion, and He is Able to do all things. Who has created death and life, that He may test you which of you is best in deed. And He is the All-Mighty, the Oft-Forgiving (67:1-2). I soonly realized that we are all slaves in terms of what we inclined to chase in this life. Not to say there is anything bad about being blessed with wealth and living according to your means, but the flawed preception that success is limited to living good in this world. How about the needy old man in the middle of the village in India who is living with self-content because he is pleased with the decree of his Creator? How about all those who are free from chasing materialism with a primary focus of pleasing their Lord? Is this not the success which we should be more focused on? If we live a wealthy and ‘comfortable’ life and die while our Lord is displeased with us, then what kind of success in this? Can we buy our Lord’s pleasure? Can we buy the Paradise He has prepared for us?

Allah says in the Qur’an: “Verily, those who believe and do righteous good deeds, for them will be Gardens under which rivers flow (Paradise). That is the great success. (85:11). As our Creator says, “that is the great success”. The greatest success is to die upon a condition where your Creator is pleased with you. How many of us have actions in accordance to this. Knowing that life is short and we could depart any second, any day, any week, what have we prepared for the real success?
Allah also says in the Qur’an: “Nay, you prefer the life of this world; Although the Hereafter is better and more lasting. Verily! This is in the former Scriptures, The Scriptures of Ibrahim (Abraham) and Musa (Moses). (87:16-19)

Life is more than just working until you die, and success isn’t merely living well in this world, rather it is to enter the gates of Paradise.

May Allah make us of those who He is pleased with and allow us to enter his Paradise!

The Student of Knowledge has a passion for buying books

By Shaykh Khaalid ar-Radaadi may Allah preserve him

The Shaykh mentioned this benefit in the Q&A portion to a lecture he gave to students in the Islamic University of Madinah entitled “How the student of knowledge should specifically build his library”. He said,

What distinguishes the student of knowledge is his library, the attention he gives to his library, and his passion for acquiring beneficial books. I remember some of the Mashayikh and some of the ‘Ulemaa who would sell some of their furniture from their homes in order to buy books out of need. They would sell some of their furniture from their own homes until they were able to buy books!

And I remember in the year 1405 (we are now in 1436[2015]) when the second book fair of the university…

Can you write notes in the margins of the Mushaf?

Answered by Shaykh Saalih bin Muhammad al-Luhaydaan may Allah have mercy on him

Question: This female questioner from Egypt asks, ‘Is it permissible for the student of knowledge to write explanations [Tafsir] of some verses or benefits derived from the verses in the margins of the Mushaf?’

Answer: Have you not seen published books where the explanation are in the margins of the Mushaf? Tafsir Jalaalayn is in the margins of the Mushaf, Tafsir Baydaawi is in the margins of the Mushaf, and those other than these.

[There is no issue with writing in the Mushaf] so long as they are written in the margins and does not resemble the writing of the Noble Qur’an.

If the Imam leads the congregation and he is one who broke his wudu but forgot that he did…

Shaikh Ibn ul-‘Uthaymeen rahimahullah said:

“If the Imam leads the congregation and he is one who broke his wudu but forgot that he did and he does not remember it until after the prayer, then it is obligatory for him to repeat the prayer. As for those praying behind him, then it is not obligatory upon them to repeat the prayer…”

The Refutation of the Statement: Material Cannot be Created Nor Destroyed – Shaikh Salih al-Fawzan

The Refutation of the Statement: Material Cannot be Created Nor Destroyed – Shaikh Salih al-Fawzan

Question: May Allah reward you, what is the refutation of the expression which is taught in schools: “that material does not perish nor is it created from nonexistence“, knowing that Allah is the Originator of the Heavens and Earth?

Answer: “This is the speech of the naturalists. Those who say that [the world and its affairs] are natural [occurrences]. They do not affirm a Creator. The truth is everything exists from nonexistence and ends after its existence except for Allah, the Exalted. For He does not have a beginning nor end:

كُلُّ مَنْ عَلَيْهَا فَانٍ – وَيَبْقَى وَجْهُ رَبِّكَ ذُو الْجَلْـلِ وَالإِكْرَامِ فَبِأَىِّ ءَالاءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

Whatsoever is on it (the earth) will perish. And the Face of your Lord full of Majesty and Honour will abide forever [55:26-27]

The Ruling on Students Making Noise in the Masjid – Shaikh Abdul-Muhsin al-‘Abbad

The Ruling on Students Making Noise in the Masjid – Shaikh Abdul-Muhsin al-‘Abbad

Question: What is the ruling on some students gathering inside the masjid, speaking a lot, and raising their voices until their is noise/clamor inside the masjid?

Answer: “Raising voices and causing clamor in the Masaajid is unpleasant. It is necessary to protect the Masaajid from that. The masjid is only for the recitation of the Quran, remembering Allah, supplication, and learning beneficial knowledge. This is what the Masaajid are for. Clamor is befitting in the markets.  It is not befitting a person to do what is not befitting in the Masaajid, like raising the voice, making noise/clamor, and disturbing those who are praying or reciting Quran or remembering Allah”.

If an insightful Scholar disparages a person, may Allah bless you, then it is obligatory to accept that disparagement. | Shaykh Rabee’ hafidhahullaah

Shaikh Rabee’ Ibn Haadi al-Madkhali said:

“If an insightful Scholar disparages a person, may Allah bless you, then it is obligatory to accept that disparagement. If another just, proficient Scholar, opposes him, then we study, as they say both sides, and look at this disparagement and this praise. If the disparagement is explanatory, clear, then it precedes the praise even if many people praise the individual. If the Scholar disparages with an explanatory disparagement and twenty other Scholars praise him or even fifty who do not have with them proof except good thoughts about the person and taking what is apparent, they don’t have proof for praising this individual, then the disparagement precedes. This is because the one disparaging has the proof and the proof takes precedence…”

The Ruling of speaking in the Toilet,

The Ruling of speaking in the Toilet,

Shaykh Bin Baaz (rahimahullaah) was asked regarding the ruling of speaking in the bathroom while using the toilet.

He (rahimahullaah) replied:

“If there is a need for it then it is okay, but if there is no need then it is better to leave off. If it is necessary to call someone, or say “do this and that”, then there is nothing wrong in it.”
