[Benefit] How to Form Good Habits – An Islamic Perpsective

Darussaafi's avatarSalafiyyah

Forming good habits are something very important because the Muslim needs to make good his/her habit. At the same time, he/she must work hard to rid themselves of any bad habits, which are not befitting their character. In order to learn how to form good habits, we return to the following Hadith of the Prophet sallahu alayhi wa salam:

It was narrated that Yunus bin Maisarah bin Halbas said:

I heard Mu’awiyah bin Abu Sufyan narrating that the Messenger of Allah said:

Goodness is a (natural) habit while evil is a stubbornness (constant prodding from Satan). When Allah wills good for a person,He causes him to understand the religion.

O mankind! Fear your Lord and be dutiful to Him!

Surah Al-Hajj, Verse 1:

O mankind! Fear your Lord and be dutiful to Him! Verily, the earthquake of the Hour (of Judgement) is a terrible thing.

Surah Al-Hajj, Verse 2:

The Day you shall see it, every nursing mother will forget her nursling, and every pregnant one will drop her load, and you shall see mankind as in a drunken state, yet they will not be drunken, but severe will be the Torment of Allah.

At What Amount can a Lost Item be kept and at What Amount Does it Need to be Announced – Shaikh Ibn ul-Uthaymeen

Darussaafi's avatarSalafiyyah

Question: What is the highest amount of lost money that is allowed to be picked up in this time period?

Shaikh: Do you mean that which will belong to him by picking it up or the amount that is allowed to be announced that it is lost?

Questioner: That will belong to him by picking it up

Answer: ” that is because their is difference between them. So that which is allowed to announce as lost is any lost item even if it reaches millions. However, that which will belong to the one who picks it up differs according to the difference in conditions and people. In the past, one dirham was expensive with the people. It was followed with concern. In our time, it is possible ten riyals is not important. If a person lost ten dirhams, he would not search after it except if…

Raising the Hands in Congregational Supplication – Shaikh Bin Baz

Darussaafi's avatarSalafiyyah

Question: Sometimes after the class or lesson: the speaker makes supplication and he raises his hands. So do we sit with him during this collective supplication or leave before the speaker begins making the supplication?

Answer: “There is no harm in supplicating after the lecture or after an admonishment or reminder, there is no harm in making supplication. Supplicating for the attendees for Tawfeeq (divine success), guidance, correctness of intention, action. However, raising the hands for the likes of this, then I do not know any evidence for it. I do not know raising the hands was reported from the Prophet sallahu alayhi wa salam except in general. Generally raising the hands and it is the means of supplication to be answered. However, it is not preserved that the Prophet sallahu alayhi wa salam used to give a admonishment to the people, remind them, then raise his…

And strive hard in Allah’s Cause…

Surah Al-Hajj, Verse 78:

And strive hard in Allah’s Cause as you ought to strive (with sincerity and with all your efforts that His Name should be superior). He has chosen you (to convey His Message of Islamic Monotheism to mankind by inviting them to His religion, Islam), and has not laid upon you in religion any hardship, it is the religion of your father Ibrahim (Abraham) (Islamic Monotheism). It is He (Allah) Who has named you Muslims both before and in this (the Quran), that the Messenger (Muhammad ﷺ) may be a witness over you and you be witnesses over mankind! So perform As-Salat (Iqamat-as-Salat), give Zakat and hold fast to Allah [i.e. have confidence in Allah, and depend upon Him in all your affairs] He is your Maula (Patron, Lord, etc.), what an Excellent Maula (Patron, Lord, etc.) and what an Excellent Helper!

Nay! Man will be a witness against himself…

Surah Al-Qiyama, Verse 12:

Unto your Lord (Alone) will be the place of rest that Day.

Surah Al-Qiyama, Verse 13:

On that Day man will be informed of what he sent forward (of his evil or good deeds), and what he left behind (of his good or evil traditions).

Surah Al-Qiyama, Verse 14:

Nay! Man will be a witness against himself [as his body parts (skin, hands, legs, etc.) will speak about his deeds].

Surah Al-Qiyama, Verse 15:

Though he may put forth his excuses (to cover his evil deeds).

And We have fastened every man’s deeds to his neck,

Surah Al-Isra, Verse 13:

And We have fastened every man’s deeds to his neck, and on the Day of Resurrection, We shall bring out for him a book which he will find wide open.

Surah Al-Isra, Verse 14:

(It will be said to him): “Read your book. You yourself are sufficient as a reckoner against you this Day.”

Surah Al-Isra, Verse 15:

Whoever goes right, then he goes right only for the benefit of his ownself. And whoever goes astray, then he goes astray to his own loss. No one laden with burdens can bear another’s burden. And We never punish until We have sent a Messenger (to give warning).

Surah Al-Isra, Verse 16:

And when We decide to destroy a town (population), We (first) send a definite order (to obey Allah and be righteous) to those among them [or We (first) increase in number those of its population] who are given the good things of this life. Then, they transgress therein, and thus the word (of torment) is justified against it (them). Then We destroy it with complete destruction.

Surah Al-Isra, Verse 17:

And how many generations have We destroyed after Noah! And Sufficient is your Lord as an All-Knower and All-Beholder of the sins of His slaves.

RULING ON WORKING IN A PLACE WHERE THERE ARE

RULING ON WORKING IN A PLACE WHERE THERE ARE WOMEN – SHAIKH IBN UL-UTHAYMEEN

Question: If a man is in a land in which it is difficult for him to work in a place where their is no women, since many women work in this land. So what is the ruling of this work because the fields which the women are in are most departments? Should I leave it?

Answer: “If it is possible for him to work in a place where their is no women, then let him leave this place which has women and work there. If it is not possible for him and he needs work, then he works and is eager in staying away from women and lowers his gaze.

So keep your duty to Allah and fear Him as much as you can [64:16]

If we are in, for example, a land where women go out showing their bodies and are adorned, can we say: Do not go out for prayer because the market is full of these women? No. Do we say: Do not go out to get the needs of the house? No. If you need to work in this place in which there is women and you can not find other than it and you are in need of money, then work and be eager is staying away from women and lower your gaze”.

2 ways of obtaining ‘ilm: Shaykh Shaatibee

Al-Imaam ash-Shaatibee, may Allah have mercy upon him, mentioned two
ways of obtaining knowledge:

Al-Imaam ash-Shaatibee, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:

One Way: Is taking knowledge orally (directly from the scholars) which
is the most beneficial of the two ways and the safest of them…

Second Way: Browsing over books of writers and authors of (Islamic)
literatures. Whereas it (this way of obtaining knowledge) is also
beneficial in relation to its field with two conditions:

Firstly: That he obtains an understanding of what was intended
regarding that requested science and (that) he becomes familiar with
the terminologies of its authors, which will complete for him his
comprehension of the books, (in reality) that occurs through the first
way of taking knowledge from the scholars orally or it returns to
it… whereas books on its own without the guideline of the scholars
does not benefit the student anything, which is something usually
observed.

Secondly: That he strives for the books of the early scholars for
verily they are more established in it (knowledge) than other than
them of the later scholars and the basis for that is by experience and
by narrations.
