How to Raise the Hands in the Qunut of Witr and Outside of it

Darussaafi's avatarSalafiyyah

Shaikh Ibn ul-‘Uthaymeen rahimahullah said:

“What is correct is that he raises his hands because that is authentic from Umar ibn al-Khattab radiallahu anhu [Reported by al-Bayhaqi (2/212) and he authenticated it]. And Umar ibn al-Khattab radiallahu anhu is one of the four guided Caliphs whose Sunnah is followed due to the order of the Prophet sallahu alayhi wa salam [Reported by Abu Dawood no. 4604 and Tirmidhi no. 2676]. So he raises his hands.

However, how does he raise his hands?

Answer: The Scholars say he raises his hands to his chest and does not raise them a lot because this supplication is not a supplication of Ibtihaal [invocation] in which a person exaggerates in raising. Rather, this is a supplication of hoping. He spreads his hands and both palms towards the sky. This is what our companions say rahimahumullah.

Surah Al-Baqara, Verse 201:

And of them there are some who say: “Our Lord! Give us in this world that which is good and in the Hereafter that which is good, and save us from the torment of the Fire!”

Anas (May Allaah be pleased with him) narrated, “The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to supplicate frequently: “O our Lord, grants us the best in this life and the best in the next life, and protects us from the punishment of the Fire.”

Our deficiency in Tawheed

We are Muslims before anything else. We are Muslim before we are Black. We are Muslim before we are White, Yellow, Green, Blue, Purple, etc.

Who are we to look down on another due to the land which they originate? Who are we to feel disgusted by a group of people who are different?

Are we ignorant to the fact that Allaah is رب العالمين? Are we ignorant to the fact Allaah created us and we have no choice in the affairs of our creation?

Is our Tawheed and intellect that deficient?

Or do we believe there is a catalogue which people can decide where they would want to be born or look like upon entering the dunya?

Allaah says:
“It is He who forms you all in the wombs however He wills” (3:6)

I advise myself first and then you to fear Allaah. Fear Allaah as He should be feared and fear a Day where justice will be given to every soul.

He also says:
“Is not Allah the Best of judges?” (95:8)

Shaykh Al-Albani (رحمه الله) said:

“That a white man makes fun of a black man due to his skin colour or vice versa, means to make fun of Allah who has created them.”

[Silsilah Huda wan Noor, 24]

A beautiful hadith also mentions:

عن أبي هريرة رضي الله تعالى عنه قال، قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم:
“حَسْبُ امْرِئٍ مِنَ الشَّرِّ أَنْ يَحْقِرَ أَخَاهُ الْمُسْلِمَ”

رواه ابي داود

It was narrated from Abu Hurayrah (may Allaah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “It is sufficient evil for a man to look down on his Muslim brother.”

[Saheeh: Saheeh Abee Dawood, No. 4882]

A questioner asked Shaykh Abdulmuhsin al-‘Abbad (حفظه الله) the following:

Question: Does speaking about a people or a specific people of a land with what they dislike considered backbiting?

Answer: “This is backbiting no doubt because a person himself would not love anyone speaking about the people of his land or dispraise the people of his land because he is one of them”.

Another benefit worth sharing,

It was narrated from Ubayy ibn Ka‘b that a man boasted in an arrogant manner of his tribal lineage, so he told him to bite his father’s penis, and he did not use a metaphor. The people looked askance at him, so he said to the people: I can see what you are thinking, and I can only say this: that the Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) instructed us: “If you hear someone boasting in an arrogant manner of his tribal lineage, then tell him to bite his father’s penis, and do not use a metaphor.”

Narrated by Ahmad (35/157); classed as hasan by the commentators on al-Musnad.

It was narrated from Ubayy (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man boasted of his tribal lineage, and Ubayy told him to bite his father’s penis, and they said: You were never given to obscene speech! He said: We were instructed to do that.

Narrated by Ahmad (35/142); classed as hasan by the commentators on al-Musnad and as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Jaami‘.

Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyah (may Allah have mercy on him) said:

Hence some of the scholars said that this indicates that it is permissible to bluntly state the name of the private part if there is a need to do so or there is an interest to be served thereby, and this does not come under the heading of obscene speech that is forbidden, as in the hadith of Ubayy ibn Ka‘b, according to which the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said:

“If you hear someone boasting in an arrogant manner of his tribal lineage, then tell him to bite his father’s penis, and do not use a metaphor.” Narrated by Ahmad. And Ubayy ibn Ka‘b heard a man saying: O So and so, and he said: Bite your father’s penis. Something was said to him about that, and he said: This is what the Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) instructed us to do (in the case of such a person).

Minhaaj as-Sunnah an-Nabawiyyah (8/408, 409)

SubhanAllah, look at how a Sahabi, a student of Rasulullah sallahu ‘alayhi wasalam rebuked this filthy disease!

How easy is it to move our tongue (in speech), but how easier is it to earn Allaah’s wrath with it?

I ask Allaah ta’ala to grant us understanding and to guide us to what pleases Him.

Why is it called Ramadan?

Why is it called Ramadan?

Shaikh Muhammad Ibn Hizam hafidhuhallah wrote:

“It is called Ramadan because the sins are burned or destroyed during this month.

It was also said: This is because people burn [inside] due to the heat of hunger and the suffering of difficulty.

It was also said: When the names of the months were recorded from the old languages, the months were given due to the time in which they occurred. So this month coincided with the days of intense heat, so it was named by that”

It is upon the student of knowledge…

Al Imaam Jamaa’a -may Allaah have mercy on him-

It is upon the student of knowledge that he does not mix with except who benefits him or that he benefits from him.

If he is exposed to friendship to he whom with him he will waste his life, does not benefit him nor benefit from him, and does not help him to what his purpose is.

Then let him be gentle in his disconnecting his companionship from the beginning before it intensifies.

For verily the affairs when they intensify its removal becomes difficult.

So if it’s needed to take a friend let him be a friend who is righteous, practicing, devout, fear of Allaah and intelligent.

Lots of good, little evil.
Good at responding with gentleness, little quarrelling.
If he was to forget (something) , he would remind (him with it).
If he would remember (something) , he would help (with it).
If he would need something, he would provide ( it).

Prohibition of Looking into Someone’s House

Prohibition of Looking into Someone’s House

Shaykh-ul-Islaam Ibn Taymiyah (may Allaah have mercy upon him) said:

“Just as lowering the gaze includes not looking at the ‘awrahs of other people and other haraam things, it also includes refraining from looking into people’s houses. A man’s house conceals his body just as his garments conceal him. Allaah has mentioned lowering the gaze and guarding one’s private parts after the verse about asking for permission to enter, because the house covers a person just as the clothes on his body do.”

[Benefit] Hastening to Break the Fast Even if the Muadhin Did not Call the Adhan

Darussaafi's avatarSalafiyyah

The Prophet sallahu alayhi wa salam said:

عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ ‏ “‏ لاَ يَزَالُ النَّاسُ بِخَيْرٍ مَا عَجَّلُوا الْفِطْرَ

“The people will remain on the right path as long as they hasten the breaking of the fast.”

[Saheeh al-Bukhari no. 1957]

The Prophet sallahu alayhi wa salam used to hasten to break the fast without waiting for the Muadhin:

Proof:

“If he was fasting sallahu alayhi wa salam, he would order a man to ascend a high place. If he [the mann] said: the sun has set, he sallahu alayhi wa salam used to break his fast

[Silsilatus-Saheeha (5/118)]
